UAM Volleyball Tabbed Eighth In GAC Preseason Poll

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team has been selected eighth overall in the 2017 Great American Conference Preseason Volleyball Poll, as released by the conference on Thursday.


Arkansas-Monticello ended the 2017 campaign with a 12-17 (8-8 GAC) overall record, and placed seventh in the final Great American Conference standings. The Blossoms fell to Ouachita in the opening round of the GAC Championship Tournament however to conclude the season.

UAM will return several key players including senior Aubrey Harrison, who enters her fourth year with the Arkansas-Monticello volleyball program. Harrison finished second overall in blocks a year ago with 44 total, and recorded 149 overall kills, and 15 service aces.

Fellow senior Macy Mitchell returns to the squad, as she led the Blossoms in digs with 528 total, and recorded 4.80 digs per set as well. Mitchell also finished sixth overall in the GAC in both total digs and digs per set.

Head coach Kelly Burdeau in her third season now with UAM, will see senior Vanessa Pawlak, and sophomores Elizabeth Harshaw, Katie Kuehl, Lacey Lyons, Maggie Pyles, Kendall Vondra, and red-shirt freshman Taytumn Schlegel-Ridgway all returning to the 2017 team also. As a team, UAM finished fourth in overall hitting percentage in the GAC, as well as finishing second in service aces, and sixth overall in total digs.

The Blossoms begin the 2017 season on the road against non-conference opponent Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas with first serve set for 7 p.m.
