UAM Weevils Winning Streak Up to Six

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team swept the overall series against GAC opponent Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon at home by final scores of 6-2, and 5-2.

Game number one for UAM (23-12, 18-6 GAC) versus OBU (11-27, 8-16 GAC) saw the Weevils playing from behind early in this match-up until the bottom of the sixth when Andres Rios and Alex Smith each knocked in multiple runs to give Arkansas-Monticello the 3-2 lead.

The Weevils went on to extend its lead in the seventh inning, taking advantage of wild pitches and passed balls from the Tigers to hold a 5-2 advantage, and Brian Ray capped off the scoring in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to right field to put the score at 6-2 in UAM's favor.



Braden Chambers (W, 5-2) started on the mound for Arkansas-Monticello, throwing 6.1 innings, and only allowed two earned runs and recorded five total strikeouts. Landon McFadden provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief as well in the winning effort.

The second match-up of the day for UAM against Ouachita Baptist once again saw OBU on the scoreboard first in the opening inning, however a Sean Wagner double down the left field line tied up the ballgame at 1-1.

UAM claimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a Nick Piraino double down the left field line as well which scored two runs, and a Ray single in the very next at-bat brought Piraino across the plate for the 4-2 advantage.

Smith sealed the game off in the following inning with a RBI singled to shortstop, putting the Weevils lead at 5-2.

Kris Brown (W, 3-3) threw a complete game in this contest to record the win, and only allowed one earned run and struck out three overall.

Arkansas-Monticello will be back on the field next on Tuesday, April 11, as the Weevils will face non-conference foe Delta State at Weevils Field, and is scheduled for 2 p.m.
