Monticello will play host to the annual Special Olympics Arkansas Area 12 Springs Games (Track & Field) on Saturday, April 29 at Monticello High School Track. Athletes from Monticello Intermediate and Middle Schools, Drew Central, and the Discovery Skills Center in Monticello, Dermott schools, Millcreek of Fordyce, CB King Memorial Adult Center in Arkansas City, and the Southeast Arkansas Human Development in Warren will be competing to qualify for the 2017 Arkansas State Summer Games to be held at Harding University in Searcy, May 25-27.
This annual track & field competition brings together athletes and volunteers from Area 12, which includes Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha, and Drew counties. Special Olympics teams from schools and centers were required to preregister for this event. However, individual participants can still register by emailing Area Director Ked Donham at kedonham@yahoo.com or on Saturday at the track from 9-9:20 AM.
Opening ceremonies for the games will begin at 9:30. Admission is free and everyone is invited to come out and support the athletes. Volunteers are always needed and are welcome to come out anytime throughout the morning beginning at 8:15.
