UAM Sweeps Northwestern Oklahoma

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team defeated Great American Conference opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State in the series finale Saturday afternoon to earn the series sweep by a final score of 9-5.

The Weevils (14-10, 11-4 GAC) scored first in the final game of the series against Northwestern Oklahoma State (8-18, 3-12 GAC) in the second inning as Nick Piraino lined one up the middle to bring in two runs to give UAM the early lead.

UAM allowed two runs in the top of the fourth to the Rangers but answered back with a three run inning of its own beginning with a Sean Wagner triple to deep center field to score three runs.

Arkansas-Monticello added some insurance runs late in the game, first with RBI hits from Brady Weiss and Wagner in the bottom of the sixth, and Wagner sealed the game off in the eighth with a RBI single through the left side of the field.

The Weevils will be back in action next on Tuesday, March 21 as UAM will travel to Russellville, Arkansas to face Arkansas Tech in a non-conference match-up with first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
